What's New - MarkView | Latest Updates & Features

Latest

Version 3.0.8

October 18, 2026

Improvements

Faster Document Opening: Markdown files now open noticeably faster: MarkView starts up in about half the time it took before, so your document appears sooner.
Smoother Pages with Many Diagrams: Documents full of Mermaid diagrams show their text right away. Diagrams at the top appear one by one and the rest load as you scroll, so the page no longer freezes while they render.

Stable

Version 3.0.5

October 17, 2026

Improvements

A New Look for MarkView: MarkView has a new icon: the same white M on a page with a folded corner. You will see it in your toolbar, on the tab of every document MarkView opens, and in the store.

Stable

Version 3.0.2

September 13, 2026

New Features

WaveDrom Timing Diagrams: Write wavedrom code blocks and MarkView renders timing waveforms, register bit fields, and logic gates right in your document, fully offline - included in exports and on presentation slides.

Improvements

Tighter Diagram Layout: Diagrams no longer leave a tall blank band beneath them, and the download and fullscreen buttons now sit above wide diagrams instead of covering them.

Bug Fixes

Readable Export Filenames: Exporting a document whose name contains accented letters, CJK characters, or spaces now produces a clean filename and title instead of percent-encoded text.
Dark-Theme Diagram Downloads: PNG and JPEG downloads taken in the dark theme now keep the dark background, so light lines and labels stay visible instead of vanishing on white.

Stable

Version 3.0.1

August 26, 2026

Bug Fixes

Correct Sidebar Sides in Right-to-Left Languages: After updating from an older version, switching the interface to Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or Urdu now mirrors the file browser and outline panels to the correct sides automatically.
Bookmark Menu Position: The bookmark menu now always opens next to the button that opened it instead of on the opposite side of the screen.

Stable

Version 3.0.0

August 26, 2026

New Features

Right-to-Left Document Support: Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Urdu and other right-to-left documents now render correctly, with automatic per-paragraph direction detection, a Text Direction setting, and full support in print and exports.
4 New Right-to-Left Interface Languages: MarkView now speaks Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Urdu - 19 languages in total - with a fully mirrored interface, from sidebars to presentation controls.

Improvements

Grouped Settings Panels: General and Appearance settings are now organized into titled sections, so individual options are easier to find.

Stable

Version 2.9.0

August 14, 2026

New Features

Folder Sorting Options: Sort the file browser by name, modified date, or size, in either direction, with an option to keep folders on top of the list. Your choice is remembered across sessions.
Long Name Wrapping: A new setting wraps long file names and headings onto multiple lines instead of cutting them off, and the outline panel can now be stretched wider.

Improvements

Wider Reading Layout: The maximum content width now goes up to 2000 pixels, putting 2K and 4K screens to full use.

Stable

Version 2.8.6

August 11, 2026

New Features

Sticky Table Headers: The header row of a long table stays pinned as you scroll, so you can always tell which column you are reading. Headers repeat on every printed page, and a setting turns it all off.

Bug Fixes

Correct Starting Position on File Switch: Opening a different file from the folder sidebar, a link, or a bookmark now starts you at the top of the document instead of dropping you partway down it.
Restored Image Alt Text: The descriptions you write for your images now reach screen readers and appear as fallback text when a picture cannot load.

Stable

Version 2.8.5

Bug Fixes

Correct Relative Links in Folder View: When you open a folder and browse into a subfolder, links to other files now open the right file instead of failing - the link is resolved against the file you are actually viewing, not the folder you started from.
Right-Sized PlantUML Diagrams: Small PlantUML diagrams no longer stretch to fill the whole page width - each one now displays at its natural size, while larger diagrams still scale down to fit.

Stable

Version 2.8.1

June 1, 2026

Bug Fixes

Reliable Heading Links: In-document links now scroll to the right heading even when the heading contains spaces, slashes, or other punctuation, matching how the same links behave on GitHub.
Embedded Images in HTML Export: Pictures that use relative paths are now reliably embedded in exported HTML files, so they show up instead of appearing broken.
Aligned Collapsible Sections: List bullets and code blocks inside collapsible sections now line up correctly, including in print and Presentation Mode.

Stable

Version 2.8.0

May 21, 2026

New Features

Graphviz Diagrams: Write dot or graphviz code blocks in your markdown and MarkView renders them as crisp diagrams, fully offline - included in PDF, HTML, and DOCX exports, and live on presentation slides.
Table of Contents in PDF and HTML Exports: Optionally include a clickable table of contents at the start of printed PDFs and exported HTML files, with a single setting that controls both.

Bug Fixes

Cleaner Diagram Pan in Fullscreen: Dragging to pan a Fullscreen diagram no longer accidentally selects the text labels inside it.
Working Anchor Links for Non-English Headings: Clicking an in-document link that points to a heading written in Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Vietnamese, or any other non-ASCII script now jumps to the right section, matching how the same links behave in VS Code and on GitHub.

Stable

Version 2.7.0

May 14, 2026

New Features

PlantUML Diagrams: Render PlantUML diagrams in your documents alongside Mermaid, with clean export to DOCX and full support in Presentation Mode - a consent prompt keeps diagram source on-device until you opt in.
In-Extension What’s New: After updating MarkView, you’ll see a one-time summary of new features and fixes without having to visit the website - dismiss it once and it stays dismissed.

Improvements

Configurable Auto-Refresh Interval: A new sub-setting under Auto-Refresh lets you tune how often MarkView checks the markdown file on disk, from twice a second up to every 2.5 seconds.

Stable

Version 2.6.0

April 28, 2026

New Features

Document annotations: highlight, underline, and comment on any passage in your markdown files
Redesigned right sidebar: a new tabbed layout combining the outline and the annotations panel, with a cleaner header, responsive overflow menu, and expand/collapse
Translated plugin settings: plugin names and descriptions in the settings panel now appear in your language across all supported locales

Improvements

Consistent button styling: floating toggles and toolbar icons now share a polished, unified hover treatment across the extension

Stable

New Features

Custom Keyboard Shortcuts: Set your own keyboard shortcuts for any action - record new key combinations, view all available shortcuts in a help modal (Ctrl+/)
Presentation Theme Customization: Personalize your slideshow look with custom background colors, background images, and opacity controls
Front Matter Display: Markdown files with metadata headers (title, author, date, etc.) now show that information in a clean, styled card at the top of the document
Localized Alert Titles: GitHub-style alerts (NOTE, TIP, WARNING, etc.) now display their titles in your chosen language, with a setting to turn this on or off
Settings Import/Export: Back up your settings to a JSON file and restore them anytime - great for migrating to a new browser or sharing your setup

Improvements

Modal Performance: Enhanced modal performance on macOS by eliminating expensive CSS effects (backdrop blur, SVG filters), optimizing animations, and refining scroll behavior

Stable

Version 2.3.0

March 18, 2026

New Features

Folder Exclusion: Scanning large projects just got faster. You can now configure folders to skip during directory scanning - with node_modules and .git excluded by default. Customize the list anytime via Settings to match your workflow
Reading Progress Bar: Add a new Celebration Effect setting so users can independently toggle the confetti animation while keeping the progress bar
Word Count Status Bar: Auto-hide the word count bar when scrolled near the bottom of the page

Improvements

Auto-Refresh Mechanism: Support file auto-refresh for plain text (.txt) files, in addition to .md files, so changes to text files are reflected immediately without needing to reopen them

Note: Version 2.2.0 is an internal build and will not be released on the Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons. The next public release will be Version 2.3.0.
